Our First Visitor

Last weekend, Doug came to visit us from the other side of the mitten. We had a great time showing him all around our little city and a good time talking and catching up.

Thanks Doug for coming to see us! So if any other of our friends from across the mitten would like to visit, Doug has paved the way. :) Come and see us any time!!

Coast Guard Celebration and Pirate Week

These past 2 weeks have been really busy! Two weeks ago was a festival that is held every year to honor the Coast Guard. It was a lot of fun and goes for a whole week. We had a kid's parade where B. had a 5 gallon pail of candy dumped in front of her and the other surrounding kids. Let's just say, we have enough candy for a very, very, very long time.

Then we got to see the Coast Guard ships come sailing into the harbor. One of the Coast Guard ships was from Canada.

Then we went to the Coast Guard parade and that evening was the fireworks. The fireworks were amazing. They were as good as Chicago's 4th of July Fireworks.

This past week was Pirate week. The local library put on pirate stuff for the kids all week long and then there was a Pirate festival in a local park this past Saturday and Sunday.
B. got to hear lots of pirates stories, make a craft and even sword fight...don' t worry they were foam swords. She was talking about getting up there to fight the pirates, and when her turn came, she would have none of it. So, she and mommy fought the pirates. On Friday, we had a picnic near the water and watched the pirates came sailing into the harbor.

Today I was looking in our local paper and saw that we are actually in one of the pictures showing the kids listening to the pirate story. Crazy.

A Day at the Zoo

Today was kid's day at our local zoo. Who can beat going to the zoo for a dollar a piece? Not this frugal, bargain momma. And to top it off, Steve from Steve Songs on PBS was there. B. likes Steve Songs. We watch them right after Curious George in the morning. He sang some of his silly songs and then after the performance, there was a line for anyone who wanted to meet and talk with him. We eagerly waited in line rehearsing with B. to tell Mr. Steve her name when the time came for us to talk with him. But B. was pretty shy once we got up there, and even had a frowny face. Mr. Steve did eventually get a little smile out of her by putting her hat on his head and being silly. He also autographed a fan for B. too.

If you look closely, Mr. Steve is wearing B's hat.

We had a great day at the zoo. One that will be remembered for years to come.

Tall Ship Celebration

We were able to go to the Tall Ship Celebration this year and take some great pictures. Tom didn't last too long, but I can't believe he even walked as much as he did for only being a few weeks past surgery. Enjoy the photos.

You might recognize this ship if you look closely and have seen Pirates of the Caribbean or Mutiny on the Bounty.

B. got to build her own tall ship.
